The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) fights for bold and creative solutions to the pollution that plagues the Bay and its tributaries. Across the six-state Chesapeake watershed, CBF sets the agenda, serves as a watchdog, and speaks out on behalf of the Chesapeake Bay to business, government, and the public.
CBF fights for strong and effective laws and regulations and works cooperatively with government, business, and citizens in partnerships to protect and restore the Bay. When necessary, we use legal means to force compliance with existing laws. We restore the Bay's essential habitats and filtering mechanisms, such as forests, wetlands, underwater grasses, and oysters, through a variety of hands-on projects.
Finally, CBF's environmental education program introduces residents to the wonders of the watershed and works to heighten sensitivity, increase knowledge, and empower citizens to take positive action toward the Bay's restoration.
Wilderness Awareness School, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded in 1983, is an internationally-recognized leader in outdoor education. Our mission is to help children and adults cultivate healthy relationships with nature, community and self. We are based in the foothills of the Cascade mountains about 45-minutes outside of Seattle, WA.
Through nature connection and cultural mentoring, we provide transformational experiences that awaken people's unique gifts, deepen their relationship with nature, and empower them to enrich the health of their communities. Our community of students includes people of all ages who understand and thrive on their connection to the natural world around us.
Nature's Classroom is a residential environmental education program located in Charlton, Massachusetts. We serve students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Nature's Classroom provides hand-on, experiential learning opportunities utilizing natural resources at each of our facilities. After spending a week at Nature's Classroom living and learning together, students develop a sense of community, a confidence in themselves, and an appreciation for others and the environment that carries over to the school community.
Over 1,000,000 children and 450 schools have come to view Nature's Classroom as a valuable academic experience, with an emphasis on scientific inquiry and critical thinking. We have been recognized for excellence by the National Science Teacher's Association, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the State of Connecticut. Our programming is tied to the Common Core curriculum, Next Generation Science Standards, and encompasses STEM learning.
