A world leader in information sharing and networking for engineering related professionals in the mining and metallurgical fields. The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) has more than 15,000 members spanning the globe. SME has hosted an annual convention for over a century to allow members to learn emerging technologies, network, and interact with vendors and service providers in the mining field.

ICMM's vision is a safe, just and sustainable world enabled by responsibly produced minerals and metals. Each of our company members – which together account for one-third of the global mining and metals industry – commits to implementing our Mining Principles as a condition of membership. These principles are neither static nor do they represent the ceiling of our ambition. We are always challenging ourselves to go ever further in setting the highest of standards for responsible mining, and delivery. We promise to work collaboratively with associations and other stakeholders to enhance the contribution of mining and metals to sustainable development. Our commitment to working with others does not stop at our industry’s boundaries. We were founded on a spirit of open engagement, and we continue to champion diversity of opinions today to deliver bold leadership for our wider industry and non-resources sectors alike.

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) has served as the leading technical industry institute in Canada for over 120 years. CIM is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, facilitation of innovation, the celebration of excellence and the promotion of sustainable practices across the full spectrum of Canada’s minerals, metals, materials and petroleum industries. CIM’s reach extends beyond borders by partnering with international sister societies, Canadian and foreign government representatives, academic and research institutions, and various communities of interest to create a new global dynamic in networking, technological development, knowledge sharing and durable mining practices. The Institute's signature event is the CIM Convention, held every year in May. CIM publishes the award-winning CIM Magazine eight times per year as well as the peer-reviewed quarterly CIM Journal.
