Small Housing BC is a non-profit dedicated to making gentle density a practical reality across Canada. As provincial and municipal reforms open the door to laneway homes, suites, plexes, and other forms of small-scale multi-unit housing, we help close the gap between policy permission and homes actually getting built. We work on two fronts. As a mission-driven organization, we develop tools, research, and programs that help homeowners, SME builders, and the wider housing sector navigate gentle density — from feasibility and financing to construction. We also partner directly with governments, municipalities, utilities, and industry on a consulting and fee-for-service basis. Local governments engage us to design and deliver pre-development support, assess infill potential, and translate complex planning policy into something their staff and residents can act on. Agencies and utilities bring us in to scope programs, run pilots, and build practical pathways for small-scale housing delivery. Our team pairs planning and policy fluency with a builder's-eye view of what makes projects actually pencil — so the work we deliver holds up in the real world, not just on paper. If your community or organization is working to enable gentle density and wants a partner who can move from strategy to delivery, we'd welcome a conversation.
