Skipping Stone Information

Since our founding, Skipping Stone has profoundly changed the narrative around how to provide truly affirming, transformative and often life-saving care to trans and gender diverse youth, adults, and families. Our comprehensive care model which focuses on supporting people as whole, healthy, wonderful humans, as opposed to labeling them as a problem or exception to be dismissed or overcome, is leading the way not only in our province but in our country when it comes to treating trans and gender diverse folks with the attention, dignity, and respect they deserve. Our innovate approach in which community/peer support team members, social workers, mental health professionals and health care professionals work together as a unified team has attracted national and international attention and acclaim while providing wrap around services such as: • Access to peer mentoring and group programming to help build a sense of community and confidence; • Access to housing, food, income and other supports to ensure they have a safe place to live and stay healthy; • Access to trans affirming mental health and medical services, among many others. Since Skipping Stone’s inception 6 years ago, we have supported and made a difference in the lives of over 10,000 youth and families across Alberta.
