New Horizons Association
From a small-scale festival in Sanok to one of the most important film events in Poland and Europe – this is the journey of the New Horizons International Film Festival, which initiated the development of the New Horizon Association. Today, NHA is much more than just a festival. One of our greatest successes is placing valuable artistic cinema on the map of Polish culture; bringing it out of its niche and making it a popular topic. This is evidenced by the number of viewers participating in our festivals or watching films at the New Horizons Cinema, in Wrocław run by NHA. We truly believe that cinematography has the power to change the world. Our greatest success is building a community of cinema aficionados who constantly surprise us with their commitment, knowledge, and openness to explore new forms of film art. At NHA, we prove that cinephilia takes on different forms and faces. For us, cinema is a universal language of dialogue – between different generations, worldviews and cultures. We start the dialogue as early as possible – with educational activities for the youngest, then we continue the conversation during festivals (New Horizons or American Film Festival), and invite people to stay with us permanently (by joining the community of viewers at the New Horizons Cinema and by watching films distributed by us). We create an alternative cultural and cinematic offer – in relation to what multiplexes propose. The NH IFF, organized since 2001, is a festival of cinema visionaries. As part of the Young Horizons Festival (first edition in 2014), we present films for young viewers which aren't created by large studios according to carefully calculated business plans. The AFF has been proving for a decade that US cinema is much more interesting than what mainstream Hollywood suggests. In turn, at the New Horizons Cinema (since 2012), we create a space for numerous discussions and meetings – not only with filmmakers; we are also open to dialogue with our audience.
