Established in 1991. Silk Threads designs and manufactures custom dresses, bridal wear, menswear and tunics, in addition to accessories. We specialize in high-end Indian bridal wear and Indian-inspired fashion creations, including Bollywood Party dresses. Ruby Bhandari founded Silk Threads out of her personal desire for fashionable ethnic wear that reflected both her Indian heritage, but also spoke to her Western sensibilities. Born in New York and raised in Austin, Texas, Ruby started Silk Threads while still pursuing her degree at the University of Texas. After first designing for herself and friends and family, Ruby realized that there was an underserved market as the South Asian-American community continued to grow. After a few years, Ruby decided to open her own manufacturing units in India to control and maintain the level of service and quality workmanship that she had come to demand, as well as work with a few selected designers to provide exclusive designs to her clients.
