Short Bros Homes was founded in 2015 by Nigel Short, Chairman of the Scarlets rugby club and owner of Penderyn Whisky. Short Bros Homes was created with a vision to build high quality, energy efficient homes and provide renewable, sustainable and energy efficient technologies to the public. The first major project undertaken was to offer free solar photovoltaic installations to householders who, in turn, leased us the airspace above their dwelling, allowing them to consume, at no charge, the electricity generated by the system. At the time of writing, we have approximately 5 Megawatts of solar PV installed on approximately 1000 homes and businesses across Wales and the South West of England. As a business, it is important to promote and advocate sustainability, which we do in as many ways as possible. For example, we have solar panels covering half of our industrial and commercial roof space, with an installed generating capacity of 1.5 Megawatts. This gives us a platform to provide heavily subsidised electricity to the small businesses who occupy parts of this space. We also utilise 'Energy Company Obligation' (ECO) funding to install energy efficient measures free of charge to fuel poor homes across England and Wales, improving upon the homes energy efficiency to save the resident on their energy bills whilst simultaneously reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
