Recently ShipTech has been involved in the design of the FastShip TG770 project. This project is a 260 m long and 40 m wide transatlantic container vessel designed for travelling at a speed of 40 knots in waves of above 7 m significant height. Structural verification of that vessel was carried out with extensive use of Finite Element programs and with the in-house developed Rational Ship Design process (RSD). This project has now reached a point where contract with the shipyard is near, and all structural calculations and drawings to establish the feasibility of the vessel have been approved by the classification society. ShipTech has designed a large number of cable laying ships with capacities from 2000 tons up to 7000 tons. Those ships are characterized by large and complicated deck arrangements for the handling of fibre optic cables, by high requirements to seakeeping and manoeuvring and by large deckhouses for the accommodation of crew up to 70 persons. It is essential, for the quality of the naval architectural work, to be in front in computerization. ShipTech is fully up to date on this area. The AutoCAD system produces all drawings and Finite Element modelling by use of MEASTRO and NISA codes is used wherever advantageous for strength calculations. Hydrodynamic analyses are carried out by the in-house non-linear code QST (Quadratic Strip Theory) or with specialised codes at any of the recognised research institutes worldwide. 3D computer tools such as AutoShip and Studio VIZ are used for definition and illustration of hulls and complete ship designs. Stability analysis are done in-house with I-ship and AutoHydro or subcontracted. Speed and power predictions are performed by a number of in house programs or subcontracted. ShipTech's work processes and routines are continuously assessed and improved to fulfil our objectives of high quality.
