In early 2009 I followed my dream of starting a wealth-management company, Shih Investments. At that time, storied financial institutions were failing, the markets were in a free-fall, and most individuals felt a great deal of uncertainty about their finances. On the other hand, my investments had performed well over the prior 8 years and I found myself extremely comfortable financially. So I followed Warren Buffett's advice to "be greedy when others are fearful." I quit my job as an engineering manager at Google, and started Shih Investments. I invest all of our family's money, and I invest my partner's money similarly. This alone guarantees that our interests are very well aligned. In fact, my family's prosperity does not at all depend on customer fees; a good return on our investment portfolio is more than enough to support all of our financial needs. I feel that most financial institutions have conflicts of interest with their customers and I've worked hard to eliminate them at this company. Warren Buffett is a hero of mine, and you will find that I've mimicked both his long-term style of investing (read one of his papers) and his style that attracts long-term investors. If such an investment style and investment partner interests you, please contact me!
