Shift Living is a startup that has created an innovative new community-based, cohousing residential living models for renters and owners. Shift Living arose out of a deep concern for the impact that isolation, lack of community, environmental issues and the absence of mindful living have on health and wellbeing. Shift Living’s mission-driven, for-profit model for developing, curating and operating community-focused residential and mixed-use destinations is built around abundant common spaces, high-caliber amenities and technology that together foster human connection, community, and wellness. Unlike many new co-living approaches, Shift Living targets and welcomes a demographic that reaches beyond millennials looking for dorm-like living through co-living. Instead, Shift draws from a cross-section of income, age, lifestyle and cultural demographics to bring together those who share a common desire to put community and sustainable, intentional living at the center of their lives. Shift Living partners with real estate owners and developers to design, operate, market, brand, curate and program residential and mixed use properties for rent or ownership. Real estate developer and hospitality owner Matthew Blesso founded Shift Living to create rental apartments and condominiums that would foster community between individuals seeking to belong in a community, or make it possible for existing communities of likeminded people to live together. Shift Living properties can yield higher returns than conventional residential buildings Shift’s pilot project is a 300,000-sf mixed-use property in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, comprised of 226 apartments, commercial, retail and coworking spaces, as well as a food hall, nightlife venue, rooftop bar, yoga studio, gym, spa and wellness center.
