Shehersaaz is a civil society initiative dedicated to making urban and suburban settlements of Pakistan safer, more resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and humane. We conduct research, identify critical urban challenges, and develop practical solutions to improve the quality of life in cities and surrounding communities. Our work focuses on understanding how urban spaces function and how they can better serve the people who live in them. The name Shehersaaz comes from Persian-rooted Urdu, combining Sheher (city) and Saaz (maker) — reflecting our commitment to shaping better cities. Our work spans all elements that define and influence urban environments, including: • People and communities, and their social, economic, and civic relationships • Natural and built environments • Infrastructure, amenities, services, and utilities • Urban administration, planning, and governance At its core, Shehersaaz is concerned with everything that shapes the image, character, and essence of a city. Through research, collaboration, and action, we strive to contribute to more livable and people-centered urban futures across Pakistan.
