Sharon Community Chamber Orchestra Information

The Sharon Community Chamber Orchestra was founded in 2003 by enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who had a vision of an orchestra that would serve the community while fulfilling the musical needs of its members. Former Sharon Recreation Department Director, Dave Clifton, provided support for the newly formed orchestra by offering a venue for its first performance- the Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Sharon Rotary Club. In 2004, the First Congregational Church of Sharon offered the orchestra a beautiful, permanent rehearsal space and a venue for performances. Over the years, the orchestra has performed many concerts now held at the Sharon Middle School Auditorium due to an increased audience. The orchestra continues its mission of connecting to the community through smaller community events including the Beech Tree Park Dedication, Sharon Interfaith Services, and a photography exhibit honoring Sharon's diversity. Michael Korn, Music Director since 2008, has created interesting and beautiful programming for the orchestra. Under his baton, many Boston area soloists have been featured including Victor Romanul (violin), Emmanuel Feldman (cello), Kenneth Stalberg (viola), Noune Karapetian (soprano), and Susan Hagen (double bass). Recently, the orchestra performed a U.S. Premiere of the four movement completion of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony B-minor D 759 by Dr. Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs. Dr. Cohrs, a German composer and scholar, worked closely with the orchestra and Mr. Korn to create a successful, incredible experience for the orchestra. This spring, the orchestra will be uniting with high school students from Oliver Ames Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra for an all Faure program. The Sharon Community Chamber Orchestra continues to pursue and fulfill its mission of serving the community and providing meaningful musical experiences for its members.
