Sustainability Governance of China's Global Infrastructure Investments (SGAIN) an ambitious and innovative research programme to advance understanding on China's global influence on international development. The primary goal is to assess China's efforts to promote green development through its overseas engagement and also investigate the environmental and social impacts of China-funded infrastructure projects in different host contexts. Through in-depth field research using mixed methods, the project will generate novel insights into the processes through which Chinese investments can support or hinder sustainable development in the Global South, and ultimately offer timely policy recommendations on sustainable infrastructure investments. The project will also pursue policy impact by directly engaging with a range of stakeholders including international organizations, national and local governments, civil society and businesses. The project team includes leading researchers across the globe in the fields of international relations, environmental governance and development studies based at Fudan University (China), Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia), University of Dhaka (Bangladesh), Sustainable Development Policy Institute (Pakistan), University of Oxford (UK), National University of Singapore (Singapore) and University of British Columbia (Canada)
