The projects of Sextantio originate from the quest of safeguarding forgotten Italian villages and historical areas – the lesser known historical heritages - destined to disappear under the weight of time and neglect, by restoring and conserving them, whilst maintaining the integrity of its surroundings. We have two sustainable real estate and tourism projects: 1) Sextantio Albergo Diffuso in Santo Stefano di Sessanio: a medieval fortified village in Abruzzo region where its 28 rooms, wine bar, restaurant, meeting room and reception lie scattered in separate buildings formerly used as barns, stables, pigsties, wine cellars and farmers' or shepherds' lodgings. Wood and stone cottages have been restyled as suites, the village dungeons serve as a wedding room and a former witch's lair now hosts business meetings. At Albergo Diffuso - literally 'scattered hotel' - two hours east of Rome, a hamlet that had fallen into disrepair has has been revived, extending to the local traditions of of soap-making and wool-spinning, both now thriving once more. 2) Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita in the Sassi di Matera - UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Basilicata region - is the most extreme expression of a Historical Minor Heritage. A heritage, which represents the almost paradigmatic expression of this Minor History, marked by rocky caves, inhabited until the first years of the fifties. The sassi (stone settlement) have been turned into 18 unique bedrooms, simply furnished, candlelit and calming. It is a cultural project born to bring hospitality experience outside the schematics, not classifiable as "stars" and far from any traditional concept of luxury, so much so that the NYT deemed it one of “the most extraordinary destinations in the world”, the Times “one of the ten most beautiful hotels on the international scene” and the Tatler guide of Condé Nast has included among “the one hundred most beautiful hotels on the planet”. They talk about the luxury of emotions.
