But most of the time, we use hot water only for a few seconds, and it gets discarded into the drain, taking energy and money with it. In 2005, the US Department of Energy estimated that over 35 billion kilowatt hours of energy are lost every year in the form of hot water going down drains in homes and buildings. We made it our mission to come up with a solution. Our solution is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from outgoing warm water to cold fresh incoming water on its way to the water heater.
