SET is a contemporary arts organisation and registered charity that transforms vacant buildings across London into spaces for experimental culture, collective making, and community. Founded in 2016 by artists, SET has grown into a network of city-wide centres shaped and sustained by the people who inhabit them, from Associate Studio Members and our team to local artists and neighbours who use and enjoy our spaces. At the heart of SET’s work is a bold, multidisciplinary public programme co-created with our members and local communities, spanning exhibitions, residencies, performances, workshops, talks, film, music, literature, social projects, activism, and night culture. The programme champions experimental and underrepresented practices, creating platforms for artists at all stages, especially those early or mid-career, to share and develop their work. Alongside this, SET offers some of London’s most affordable studios, supporting over 1,000 artists across its centres. All income is reinvested to ensure affordability, accessibility, and stability for artists to pursue their practices without prohibitive costs. SET also advocates for artists and communities across the city. Through partnerships with cultural organisations and the London Affordable Artists’ Studio Network (LAASN), we work towards systemic change to safeguard affordable space and expand access to culture. SET’s purpose is to advance the arts for public benefit. We achieve this by nurturing communities of artists, platforming experimental work, and keeping space for culture open and alive for everyone.
