Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for geological prospecting (MGRI) is a higher educational institution that specializes in training specialists and mining engineers for various branches of the geological and mining industry — geologists, hydrogeologists, drillers, geophysicists, surveyors, paleontologists, gemologists, mining engineers, ecologists and economists. The University originates from the geological prospecting faculty of the Moscow Mining Academy, established in September 1918. Over the entire history of MGRI, more than 30 thousand specialists, 1500 candidates and 400 doctors of science have been trained. Among the graduates of the MGRI — more than 1,300 foreigners from 78 countries around the world.
