Changing Cancer Diagnosis with Early In Vivo Detection Imagion Biosystems is pioneering the use of Magnetic Relaxometry (MRX) as an entirely new approach to the in vivo detection of cancer and other diseases. The MRX™ technology combines the use of highly sensitive magnetic field sensors with cell-specific targeting nanoparticles to locate and quantify cancer cells in vivo. The company has demonstrated the ability to detect very small tumors - orders of magnitude more sensitive than conventional imaging methods like MRI or ultrasound - and plans to develop and commercialize the technology as a highly sensitive, molecularly specific method for the early detection of cancer in vivo. The potential of the technology for medical research and, ultimately, patient care, has been demonstrated in several studies and the company has preclinical research collaborations in place developing models for various cancers in anticipation of translating the preclinical research into first in human testing.
