Erdemir, the main company of the OYAK Mining Metallurgy and one of the most valuable industrial assets of Turkey, was established in 1960 under a special law, in order to be the first domestic producer of flat steel, which the Turkish industry necessitates at that time. Erdemir produces plates, hot and cold rolled, tin, chromium and zinc coated flat steel and supplies basic inputs to automotive, white goods, pipes and tubes, rolling, manufacturing, electrics-electronics, mechanical engineering, energy, heating equipment, shipbuilding, defense, and packaging industries.
Akçansa was established with the merger of Akçimento (established in 1967) and Çanakkale Çimento (established in 1974) in 1996.
Active in the Marmara, Aegean and Black Sea Regions, Akçansa produces cement and clinker in its three factories located in İstanbul-Büyükçekmece, Çanakkale and Samsun-Ladik. The Company also has five cement terminals located at İstanbul-Ambarlı, İzmir-Aliağa, Yalova, Yarımca and Hopa.
Following the merger between Akçansa and its subsidiary Betonsa in 1998, Akçansa started to provide service under the “Betonsa” brand. Through this merger the Company produces ready-mixed concrete in over 35 plants throughout the Marmara and Aegean regions.
The Company merged with another subsidiary, Agregasa Aggregate, in 2002, and produces aggregate under the “Agregasa” brand in its 4 plants.
Akçansa aims to have “the highest quality in production and service” in order to supply the demands of its domestic and international customers and to compete by creating differences that go beyond the price issues.
As the leader of the Turkish cement industry, Akçansa supplies 10% of our country’s cement demand and 12,5% of the country’s total cement and clinker exports.
