Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust provides adult specialist mental health, addiction, learning disability and community health services in North West England and beyond. Our vision is to become the leading organisation in the provision of these services. Quality, recovery and wellbeing are at the heart of everything that we do. We provide specialist inpatient and community mental health, learning disabilities, addiction services and acquired brain injury services for the people of Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby, Merseyside. We provide community physical health services in Sefton, secure mental health services for the North West of England, the West Midlands and Wales and specialist learning disability services across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside. We are one of only three trusts in the country that provide these services.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust was established on 1 July 2006 with the merger of the Cumbria, Lancashire, Mersey Regional and Greater Manchester Ambulance Services, the aim being to provide the best possible ambulance and pre-hospital care service to the people of North West England. The Trust works with other partners to develop new ways of delivering emergency and urgent healthcare to the patient. The Trust will seek to minimise unnecessary emergency hospital admissions through the provision of suitable alternative pathways of patient care and by working with our NHS partners. We will strive for patients to receive appropriate care and experience from consistently getting the right response, first time, in time and in the right place. The service covers an area of over 5,400 square miles with a population of over seven million people. The Trust employs over 5,100 staff. Almost 1,000 emergency and non-emergency vehicles operate in the region. Over one million emergency calls are received each year. In the North West, NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

The Trust was established in 1995 and we are one of the busiest university teaching hospital trusts in North West England. We manage three hospitals based on two sites: the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital. Our hospitals have often been at the forefront of medical breakthroughs during our long history in the heart of the city. We are the major adult university teaching hospitals trust for Merseyside and Cheshire. We have significant relationships with all the universities in Liverpool, but in particular the University of Liverpool’s medical and clinical schools and Liverpool John Moores University with regard to the training of nurses. As well as being the host organisation for the North West Coast Comprehensive Research Network, we are also a centre for clinical research and lead teaching and training for a variety of health professions. We have a dedicated Clinical Research Unit that is accredited by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to perform first in human clinical trials. In collaboration with the University of Liverpool, we also have the only National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded Biomedical Research Unit in the UK, which is dedicated to pancreatic disease. We provide general hospital services to the adult population of Liverpool. We also provide a comprehensive range of specialist services to 750,000 people each year within a total catchment population of more than two million people in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, the Isle of Man and beyond.
