SEDSConnective is the world's first Experts by Experience led charity for the physical and mental connections and integration. In neurodivergent children and young people this most commonly shows up as symptomatic hypermobility plus the associated conditions, based on neuroscience and data. Hypermobility and neurodivergence are interconnected whole-person body and brain conditions. Science rarely proves anything conclusively, but we can say there is strong evidence and strong good confidence in the research between hypermobility and neurodivergence that they are interconnected. Hypermobility is multisystem. It involves cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal and immune presentations, including Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, hypermobility spectrum disorders, postural tachycardia syndrome, dysautonomia, mast cell activation syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis, fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome (EDS, HSD, POTS, MCAS, ME/CFS and IBS respectively). Neurodivergence covers a far wider range than autism and ADHD alone. It includes dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscalculia, Tourette's and many others, often co-occurring rather than appearing singly. People with these interconnected conditions have long lacked holistic support. We work to improve healthcare, research, education and employment, and we empower individuals, families and carers to live fuller lives. SEDSConnective's work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through our peer support, research, training, policy engagement and international partnerships, we work to advance health equity, education, employment and inclusion for people with symptomatic hypermobility and neurodivergence.
