Second Sense provides client-centered vision rehabilitation training in a supportive environment. Our staff understands that vision loss affects each individual differently and adjusting to vision loss is a process. Different people are at different stages in that process, so we provide our clients with the support and training that is appropriate for them and will help them move through their unique adjustment. Our training is focused in three areas: independent living, technology and mobility skills. Independent living skills encompass a wide range of topics from writing to managing medication and organizing your closet to continue favorite activities. Technology skills include using PCs, Macs and phones for work, at school or in your daily life. Mobility training involves learning to travel safely with a sighted guide, by using a white cane or as part of a team with a guide dog. This training is provided through individual lessons, focused on each clients' specific needs. There is no set curriculum, no referral needed, and no cost to the client. Our programs empower our members, encouraging them to take control of their lives, not become dependent upon our services. All our services at Second Sense are provided by staff professionally trained and licensed/certified to perform their job duties.
