Second Parish Information

home on our website and ultimately at our church. As Unitarian Universalists, we are open and welcoming to everyone, confident that knowing you will help us understand the world more fully and that worshiping and working with you will help us in our constant quest to serve others and to appreciate the mysteries of life. Please consider visiting us to explore what Second Parish has to offer. The custom at Second Parish is to take off the summer months of July and August from gathered worship. In part the custom derives from the fact that attendance falls off dramatically in the summer; in part because in past years our windows havent opened and the sanctuary can become quite a hot spot - of the unfavorable kind. This summer, when we are still feeling the effects of a pandemic and cautious about the safety of gathering together, it seems a blessing that we already have planned to take the summer off and know how to do it. We welcome you to come to our first fall service on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Though we dont yet know if that service will be a gathering in the sanctuary or a gathering via Zoom, information about how to join in will appear here at the end of summer. While we know that the spirit of our church grows and thrives in our gathered services, we also know that the spirit we create is bigger than the space of an hour or a building. The essence of this spirit of commitment involves seeking and reflecting together, whether in person or on separated screens, as we try to figure out what life means. The essence is, as our covenant states, love for each other and respect for each persons search for truth. Please check out our two Facebook pages (Second Parish in Hingham and Friends of Second Parish) to learn about any special summer activities.
