Seashell is a charity dedicated to providing a creative, happy and secure environment for children and young people with complex needs and additional communication challenges from across the UK. Across our school, college and residential care homes, and through the work we do beyond our own facilities, we deliver programmes of education, care and support that are individually tailored, promote independence and help build confidence and self-esteem in the children and young people we work with. Seashell helps children and young people with very complex needs, and their families, live their best lives. Seashell Trust is a registered charity and we are proud to have Her Majesty The Queen as Patron. Royal School Manchester and Royal College Manchester together with our registered children's and adult's homes and short breaks service are part of Seashell Trust - they operate as separate divisions and share a range of services run centrally. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of Seashell Trust. The Governing Bodies of Royal School Manchester and Royal College Manchester are responsible for the governance of the school and college and are chaired by a Seashell Board Trustee. The Chief Executive/Principal and Executive Leadership Team is charged with the day-to-day management of Seashell Trust, supported by Heads of Service. Some two years after their initial meeting at Manchesters Corn Exchange on 11 June 1823, Robert Philips and William Bateman, the founders of the original charity, opened their school for deaf children in rented premises in Salford
