Schoharie River Center, Inc Information

Our mission is to instill a love for learning and science, promote the values of stewardship for our local environment, and encourage the positive and responsible involvement of youth in their communities. Since 1999 the Schoharie River Center, Inc. has been serving youth, their families and communities in Schenectady, Schoharie and Montgomery Counties. Our Environmental Study Team program (EST) has been actively engaging and involving over 800 area youth (and their parents) in the scientific monitoring of freshwater resources and the study of local ecology, history and traditional arts of the Schoharie and Mohawk River Basin. EST youth (ages 13 - 18 yrs. old) learn and develop new life skills as they monitor, document and report their findings regarding the water quality of local streams, lakes, and rivers. They graduate from high school, pursue college and lead productive and socially responsible lives. It’s exciting to watch them grow in character and confidence while becoming our future leaders.
