SaveAct Information

SaveAct enables the formation of savings groups in rural communities as a simple but effective tool to fight poverty. These groups provide a foundation for building sustainable livelihoods and help to empower women and other vulnerable groups. Founded in Pietermaritzburg in 2005, we have with our partners formed savings groups with 115,000 members in seven provinces in South Africa. We work with a network of committed partner organisations within a community of practice. Our model incorporates: • financial education & livelihood pathway facilitation • formation of savings groups • enterprise development • agroecology • reflection, learning & collective action amongst members. Activities are aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering individuals and communities to play more active roles in economic and social development.
