SathSath Information

“SathSath” means “together.” SathSath is working together with children and youth in Nepal to develop their skills, build capacity & capabilities; and empower them to claim their rights in society. Established in 1998, and initially started working for street-connected children, SathSath was officially registered in 2001 on March 1st with Nepal Government as a non-governmental organization. SathSath has been actively creating pressure on the Nepal Government’s concerned authorities to implement practically all international treaties and conventions that have been made for children. SathSath takes a rights-based approach, with the child and youth as the key actors in his/her development and working to expand his/her life choices. The program provides opportunities for children and youth helping them to develop their capacities and capabili¬ties, which help to improve their situation. We work with children and youth who have had negative experiences of society and have been socialized and grown up in street/social discrimination/abuse and exploitation; gender bias, the worst form of child labor, destitute situations, etc which often means a negative perception of self and society. SathSath has been designing and implementing its programmes and activities by making children the main priority, focal point, and participation in the process of formulating. Today, SathSath works to protect the rights of street-connected children, children in the worst form of child labour and sexual abuse, and exploitation specifically “Boys” as a pioneer organization in Nepal. SathSath has primarily worked to prevent the sexual abuse and exploitation of boys. Our society assumes and believes that it is only girls who are subjected to sexual abuse. Thus, we find it imperative to educate the public and advocate for these boys with the slogan “Not only Girls but Boys too experiences sexual abuse and exploitation.”
