SAN ANTONIO BIKE SHARE is an innovative approach to urban mobility , combining the convenience and flexibility of a bicycle with the accessibility of public transportation. San Antonio Bike Share consists of 575+ bicycles provided at a network of 65+ stations located at key destinations within the urban core of the city and along the Museum and Mission Reach bike paths. San Antonio Bike Share was the first public bike share program in the state of Texas and the funding for the initial purchase of assets (stations, bikes, solar panels) came from federal grants administered by the City of San Antonio. The grants came from the Department of Energy, Centers for Disease Control, Paul S Sarbanes Transit in Parks and the Federal Transit Administration. In just over 9 years of operation, San Antonio Bike Share has recorded over 700,000 trips and the system has close to quadrupled in size since it's began in 2011 with just 14 bike share stations and 140 bikes. SAN ANTONIO BIKE SHARE a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, relies on sponsorships and individual donations as well as membership fees and is supplemented with government and non-government grants.
