The elected Parliament of the Sámi people in Norway. The Sámi Parliament was established in 1989 and officially opened by His Majesty King Olav V. The Sámi Parliament is elected by the Sámi every four years in counjunction with Norway’s general election and consists of 39 representatives elected by direct votes from 7 electoral districts. The Sámi Parliament is a political institution that is intended to enhance the Sámi’s political influence and promote Sámi interests in Norway.
