The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is a powerful blend of fiercely intense competition and human endeavour. The ultimate global ocean sailing challenge, the Clipper Race is a record-breaking eleven month, 40,000 nautical mile ocean race that reaches out to major markets on six continents with twelve teams on a matched fleet of Clipper 70 ocean racing yachts. More than 700 race crew from more than 40 countries join together to take on 'the race of their life' and battle Mother Nature’s toughest conditions; 'ordinary' people who take on the extraordinary, believing that anything is possible through teamwork and mental fortitude. Crew can either sign up for a single leg, combine several of complete a year-long circumnavigation, to achieve something remarkable.

Le Vendée Globe est à ce jour la seule course à la voile autour du monde, en solitaire, sans escale et sans assistance. L'événement s’est inscrit dans l'esprit du Golden Globe qui en 1968 initia la première circumnavigation en solitaire, sans escale et par les trois caps (Bonne Espérance, Leeuwin et Horn). Sur les neuf pionniers à s'élancer en 1968 un seul réussit à revenir à Falmouth, le 6 avril 1969 après 313 jours de mer, le britannique Robin Knox-Johnston. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston fut ainsi le premier navigateur à remporter une course à la voile, autour du monde, en solitaire et sans escale… Vingts années plus tard, c’est le navigateur Philippe Jeantot, qui après sa double victoire dans le BOC Challenge (Le tour du monde en solitaire avec escales) lança l’idée d’une nouvelle course autour du monde, en solitaire, mais… sans escale ! Le Globe Challenge était né, qui prendra quelques éditions plus tard le nom de Vendée Globe. Et le 26 novembre 1989, treize marins prendront le départ d'une première édition qui durera plus de trois mois. Ils ne seront que 7 à rentrer aux Sables d’Olonne. Depuis, les 7 premières éditions de ce que le grand public nomme aujourd’hui l’Everest des mers, ont permis à 138 marins de prendre le départ du Vendée Globe, pour seulement 71 qui ont réussi à couper la ligne d’arrivée. Ce chiffre exprime à lui seul l’extrême difficulté de cet événement planétaire où les marins sont confrontés au froid glacial, aux vagues démesurées et aux ciels pesants qui balayent le grand sud ! Le Vendée Globe est avant tout un voyage au bout de la mer et aux tréfonds de soi-même. Il a consacré de très grands marins : Titouan Lamazou, Alain Gautier, Christophe Auguin, Vincent Riou, François Gabart et Armel Le Cléac'h. Un seul marin l’a gagné deux fois : Michel Desjoyeaux, en 2001 et 2009. Le record de l’épreuve est détenu par Armel Le Cléac'h en 74 jours. Le dixième Vendée Globe s'est élancé des Sables d’Olonne le 10 novembre 2024 !
