SafeStart is a safety consultancy that helps clients achieve a step-change improvement in safety performance by dealing with how we all make mistakes and what can be done about it. SafeStart uses its two decades of practical experience, neuroscience and behavioural research to develop and implement safety skill building programs that focus on the individual, but involve all levels of the organisation. These programs typically improve safety performance by 30-70% within 6-12 months, sometimes up to 90%. Its success is due to a combination of: • Bringing “structure to common sense” for the individual. • Skilling-up the leaders to engage effectively with anyone. The SafeStart process does not involve blame or fault; it helps people manage the cognitive limitations that make us human. When people understand this and practice the four SafeStart techniques, they not only make less mistakes but also comply more, make “safer” choices and contribute to a positive safety culture. We refer to the SafeStart process as Third Generation Safety because it is fundamentally different from focussing on “compliance” (First Generation Safety) or “safety is a choice” (Second Generation Safety).
