SafeIdea is compliance infrastructure for AI in legal practice. The patent-pending Masking Engine identifies and masks confidential entities on-device before any request leaves for the cloud, then unmasks the model's response when it returns. Masking is guided by a Firm Masking Dictionary that applies firm confidentiality standards uniformly. Two recent decisions have closed the gap between attorney practice and attorney risk. In U.S. v. Heppner, Judge Rakoff (S.D.N.Y.) held that an attorney's interactions with a consumer AI tool were not protected by attorney-client privilege. In In re OpenAI / Wang, affirmed by Judge Stein, the court compelled preservation of user conversation data. These rulings are evidence that Rule 1.6 has no AI exception.
