The Legal Aid Society is the nation's oldest and largest provider of legal services to the indigent. Founded in 1876, the Society provides a full range of civil legal services as well as criminal defense work, and juvenile rights representation in Family Court. Our core service is to provide free legal assistance to New Yorkers who live at or below the poverty level and cannot afford to hire a lawyer when confronted with a legal problem.

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is the leading international nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting unaccompanied and separated children on the move. We envision a world where every child migrating alone has access to legal representation and where their rights, safety, and well-being are fully protected. Founded in 2008 by Microsoft Corporation and Co-Founder and Patron Angelina Jolie, KIND was created to close the justice gap for unaccompanied children in need of legal support. Today, KIND operates across the United States, Mexico, Central America and Europe, supported by a global network of pro bono partners, law firms, and NGOs. Together, we provide children with comprehensive, child-centered care, including legal assistance and representation, and psychosocial support.
