A working fish market, SFM sources' product both nationally and internationally and trades over 14,500 tonnes of seafood annually - with up to a hundred species of sustainable Australian seafood traded every day.
SFM employs approximately fifty-seven staff to organise the weekday wholesale auction, promote Sydney Fish Market as the centre of seafood excellence and operate the Sydney Seafood School.
Since opening in 1989, Sydney Seafood School has played an important part in persuading Sydney residents to eat more fish. The School is considered to be one of Australia’s leading cooking schools. Over 13,000 people come to classes each year. Visit the SSS pages for more information or to book a class.

We are a family owned company was established in 2000 and has grown to be the largest supplier of seafood in the region – Eyre Peninsula “The Seafood Frontier” – processing a variety of seafood products including Scalefish, Squid and Shellfish. Over these years, the company has built up a seafood service division supplying the region’s restaurants, hotels, clubs and fish shops which has developed into the largest of its kind in the region. It also operates The Fresh Fish Place – a brand new factory direct retail outlet providing fresh seafood to the public along with factory tours and tastings for the tourist market and the Port Lincoln Seafood Cooking School – a fantastic new facility that brings together the culinary profession, seafood marketers and keen learners in TV, radio, seminars and demonstrations.
Our quality service and products has developed due to the extensive experience within the seafood industry of Managing Director, Craig McCathie. Craig has fished commercially for 25 years within the Southern Blue fin Tuna Industry, Spencer Gulf Prawn Fishery, Shark and Leather Jacket Fisheries, Tasmanian Orange Roughy Fishery & the Shark Bay Scallop Fishery. Later going on to own licenses in the Sand Crab and Blue Crab Fisheries & now a member of the South Australian Sand Crab Trap Association. Craig’s most important task is sourcing seafood from the local fishermen scattered around Eyre Peninsula’s vast coastline. Craig has an affinity with these suppliers having been a commercial fisherman himself for 25 years.

John West is dedicated to ensuring the best future for our oceans. This is why we're proud to partner with one of the world's largest independent conservation organisations, WWF. Together we will ensure that by 2015, all John West seafood comes from either: Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified fisheries Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified farms. If these products are not available, we will use: Responsibly sourced seafood products as advised by WWF, or Seafood products sourced from a fishery or aquaculture operation undergoing an improvement project recognised by WWF. As part of our ongoing dedication to sustainability, in February 2012 we developed our own sustainability Commitment - 'Our Oceans Forever.' This commitment is represented by three core beliefs. You can find out more about these below.
