One of the many new businesses fueling the renaissance of downtown Opelika is Bayou Bistro. Reminiscent of old New Orleans, Bayou Bistro takes southern cuisine to a new level with classic dishes skillfully blended with cutting edge new American cuisine. Owners Micah and Michel Martello, originally from South Louisiana, have been in the food business for the better part of their lives. Michel is an expert in front of house service and business operations. Micah is the Executive Chef and is responsible for the menu and all kitchen operations. The house specialty is crab cakes, a sinfully rich experience. But these aren't just the usual crab cakes. Unlike others, these crab cakes are made without any breadcrumb filler. Other delights include Chef Micah's award winning smoked duck and okra gumbo and his crispy roasted semi boneless duckling. You can expect to see other restaurant concepts of the Martello's popping up in the near future in Auburn as well as Opelika.
