Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is a state-funded distance education provider that offers a wide range of personalised learning programmes and courses, from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including young adult and adult learners, which are mostly delivered online. We have kaimahi (staff) located throughout New Zealand, three quarters of who are teachers.
As New Zealand’s largest school with up to 30,000 ākonga enrolled through distance education our kaimahi work together to ensure successful outcomes for our ākonga and their whānau. Our vision is to enable ākonga (students) to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities and enjoy their lives to the fullest.
We do this by putting our ākonga at the centre of their learning by providing a flexible, personalised approach, enabling ākonga to choose when and where they learn.
We support ākonga, ki te tī, ki te tā, ki te katoa – Anytime, anywhere, anyone.
Back in 1989, the Government took 25 organisations and turned them into the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. As caretakers of our land, air and water, Bay of Plenty Regional Council monitors the effects of human activities on our environment. We also promote the sustainable management of our natural and physical resources for present and future generations.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council's work guides and supports the sustainable development of the Bay of Plenty. We want to make sure our region grows and develops in a way that keeps its values safe for future generations.
A major focus of our work involves looking after the environment. We manage the effects of people's use of freshwater, land, air and coastal water. However, we also have a broader responsibility with others for the economic, social and cultural well-being of the regional community.
Our other work includes:
Managing the risks posed by our major rivers including the region's major flood control schemes.
Planning and prioritising the region's land transport needs, including major roading improvements.
Organising passenger transport services, including Tauranga's Bay Hopper and Rotorua's Cityride.
Navigation and safety on our harbours and lakes.
Supporting sustainable economic development.
Strategic thinking for our region's future.
We want our students to love coming to school every day. So we have built a welcoming, vibrant, respectful and purposeful learning community, to which our students feel strongly connected.
Our comprehensive student support services, exceptional commitment to our teachers’ professional learning and our strong home-school partnerships also underpin our students’ wellbeing and success.
