Graf Motorsports #20G made some breathing room on the 2013 UMSS points chase this weekend with three top 5 finishes. We went into Thursday's race at Willmar (KRA Speedway) with a 4 point lead on Tony Norem. We had a good heat race and challenge race which put us on the second row for feature. One the first lap Tony Norem and Jason Tostenson got into each other and Tony was out for the night and Jason ended up going to the back. We restarted 4th and were running 2nd when the MSD box mount broke causing us to lost one spot and ended up finishing 3rd. Friday night at Princeton Speedway we also had a good heat race and challenge race which put us outside second row. On the original start of the race the car starting behind us drive into the back of us on the first lap and spun both of us out. We ended up restarting in the 23rd spot and just stayed patient and work our way up to a solid 5th place finish. Saturday Night was the final night of the Kouba Memorial at St Croix Valley Raceway. They took the Finishing points from the night before at Princeton and Passing point from the heat Saturday and the top 6 cars were put in a 6 lap Dash to determent the start spots for the 30 Lap Feature. We ended up drawing a pole starting spot for the Dash and finished 2nd putting us on the outside of the front row for the Main. For the feature we spun the tires on the start which allowed Brooke Tatnell to get out to an early lead where we tracked him down but the track was just too slick to get by. But on a restart the UMSS officials deemed that Brooke jumped the start which put us in the lead, we were running a strong race in the lead and with 10 laps to go a lap car got crossed up a few times in front of us allowing Brooke and Lee Grosz to catch up and sneak under us. We then slipped pass the lap car and ended up finishing 3rd. All In All after this weekend we gain over 90 points on the 2nd place Tony Norem in the Points chase and the Crew and I had FUN. Kody started Heat Race #3 from the 3rd position, needing to finish in the Top 4 to transfer to the A-Main, and the Top 2 to make the A-Main redraw for the top 10 starting spots. He made quick work of the front row, taking the lead on lap 2, then held off a charging Shawn Westerfeld in the final laps to win. For the 25 lap feature event, Kody started 5th, and this race was a battle from the very beginning. In the early going Kody slid into 4th, and then 3rd before he began running down the leaders. A series of cautions made it tough to get a rhythm going, but eventually Kody moved into the 2nd position, and began trying to reel in leader Luke Hall. A red flag flew near the halfway mark, and on the restart an engine bobble and a jumped start by the 4th place car sent Kody back a few spots, and forced him to race his way past again. Over the final 10 laps Kody ran back up to the 2nd spot, but just couldn't quite track down the leader. "We had a great car tonight, good enough to win if I could have figured out what I needed to do as a driver. Luke and the #9N team are always really strong, and he just out drove me tonight. He ran really well around the top of 1 & 2, and for whatever reason I couldn't bring myself to leave the bottom, that was my mistake and what I believe kept us from contending for the win. I'm thankful for this team and everyone who pitches in to be a part of this #21K, and I'm hoping we can do one spot better tomorrow night."
