The journey of Bina Nusantara University began on October 21, 1974. It originated from a short-term course named Modern Computer Course, which then expanded because of its strong foundation and comprehensive vision. Due to the high demand and its rapid development, on July 1, 1981, Modern Computer Course had developed into ‘Akademi Teknik Komputer (ATK)’ or Computer Technical Academy with ‘Manajemen Informatika’ or Informatics Management as the first major. The ATK obtained registered on July 13, 1984 and a year after that, exactly on July 1, 1985, the institution changed into AMIK Jakarta. On September 21, 1985, AMIK Jakarta changed its name into AMIK Bina Nusantara. AMIK Bina Nusantara recorded a remarkable achievement in its relatively young age when it was chosen as the best Computer Academy by The Ministry of Education and Culture through The Higher Education Board District III on March 17, 1986. The need for professional workers in the Information Technology area drove AMIK further into development, and on July 1, 1986 it was officially listed as ‘Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Informatika dan Komputer (STMIK)’ or Institute of Information Management and Computer Science Bina Nusantara. On November 9, 1987, a merger between AMIK Bina Nusantara and STMIK Bina Nusantara took place. The institution conducted Diploma (D-3) and Undergraduate (S-1) programs. An accreditation status of ‘Disamakan’ or ‘Equalized’ for all majors and levels was earned on March 18, 1992. On the next year, STMIK Bina Nusantara opened the first Masters (S-2) Program in Information System Management in Indonesia. The program was officially listed on May 10, 1993. After going through years of perseverance and hard work, Bina Nusantara University (Universitas Bina Nusantara or UBINUS) was officially listed and established on August 8, 1996. Telkom University is one of the most prominent and most modern private universities in Indonesia. The fast growth of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) combined with the cultural diversity of Indonesia leads Telkom University to focus on ICT-based education and research in the field of engineering, business, and creative industry. Telkom University was launched on 14th August 2013, a merger of four higher education institutions belonging to PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk, which is the biggest telecommunication corporate owned by Indonesia Government. The grand launching was held on 31st August 2013 by the Minister of Education and Culture – Professor Mohammad Nuh, the CEO of Telkom Group – Dr. Arief Yahya, and the Chairman of Telkom Foundation – Johni Girsang, M.Sc. By the spirit of “Creating the Future”, within six years after establishment, Telkom University has turned up to be a world-class university consisting of 7 faculties (schools) and 31 programs (departments) for undergraduate and graduate studies. The student body was grown very rapidly from 17,000 to 30,000 including international students from 28 countries such as Timor Leste, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, The Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, Jordania, Sudan, etc. Thus, international classes offered for students, where the content delivered in English. The program provides international short term visit, exchange, or double degree with partner university including Wosoong University (Korea), Kumoh Institute of Technology (Korea), Kumamoto University (Japan), Saxion University (the Netherlands), UUM Malaysia, UTHM Malaysia, etc. 32 research groups cover broad areas of research and 120 laboratories. An Innovation Center, namely Bandung Techno Park (BTP) actively involves developing and mentoring start-up company, business incubation, and providing a technology solution in ICT areas. Since December 2016, Telkom University has accredited “A”.

Being more than five decades of age, UNS continues to struggle and bear a hard mandate: to increase the nation’s intellectual life. Various activities have been carried out and many accomplishments have been achieved. Currently, UNS has grown and developed into one of the outstanding universities in Indonesia. In the future, UNS is expected to develop as a leading university in education, research and community service, both at the national level—inline with the earlier developed colleges and at the international level, as a university which is capable to act autonomously as a world class university. Currently, UNS is constantly developing itself to compete in acceleration development program in the field of: a) access equity and expand; b) improvement of quality, relevance, and competitiveness; and c) improvement of governance, accountability, and public image. The efforts to develop UNS to be an eminent university at the international level and be advanced in science, technology and art, as mandated in UNS Vision and Mission, has a big consequence and responsibility, particularly in building a mutual commitment, which are: promoting the quality, being professional, effective, and efficient. Various programs, policies, and activities have been continuously conducted to face the challenges of the rapid, dynamic, interdependent, and complex global change. We have to admit that the challenges in the future are much more difficult, because the development of higher education can not be separated from the rapid development of the world’s science, technology, art and culture, and economy. Those changes will eventually demand that the graduates possess reliable and competitive competencies.
