Rorke's Drift Hotel Information

At Rorke's Drift on the River Buffalo, the views from the Hotel are spectacular and full of interest with gentle walks or hikes in our natural bush surroundings to revive and stimulate. The wagon drift that gives the area its name is within our grounds, and of course there is the Battlefield, just 5 minutes or a short walk away, where 11 Victoria Crosses were awarded. The dramatic field of Isandlwana that was fought on the same day is just a 20 minute drive, and the poignant memorial at Fugitive's Drift, 15 minutes downstream. We are the Hub and the Heartbeat of the Battlefields, in the centre of the actions of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. Nearby, Blood River and Talana respectively add interest to the Boer-Zulu confrontation in 1838 and the South African War of 1899-1902. Unique subjects for photographers and artists, birders and relaxers draw guests for multiple visits. The Hotel is 45mins from Dundee and 25 mins from Nqutu and approached on good gravel roads; the journey from Jo'burg or Durban encourages our guests to spend at least two nights, and a week will still leave things undone for your next visit ( see Sarah's Diary in our Destinations page) Our comfortable modern facilities were completed in 2011 and are a unique architectural design taken from the Zulu idiom. The soaring thatched roof encloses spacious bar, lounge and dining areas, all with huge windows showing the views. In addition we have six single rooms and a quirky one on the mezzanine. Visitors will be stunned by our beautiful position with imposing views over Zululand and towards Isandlwana which are enriched by the history and the stories that you must hear from our deck. We offer a battlefield guiding service for our visitors so you may join a group or have individual attention to meet your wishes, or book your own guide.
