Ronald McDonald House of Akron Information

Since January 1985 Ronald McDonald House Akron (RMHA) has provided a unique and supportive home-like environment for families that have a loved one admitted or being treated at Akron Children’s Hospital. RMHA allows parents to be close by their sick children, surrounded by a warm, peaceful, and comforting atmosphere that strengthens them during trying times. Our House gives families the ability to spend more time with their sick children, to interact with their doctors, and to make important decisions about their children’s care. Every night we provide the families that we serve with a private room and bathroom, community living areas, large kitchen area and use of our fully stocked pantry. Each evening we provide a complete dinner for all our families. Our services are provided with the minimal request of a $10 per night donation however, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay. We are privately funded and supported by a generous community. In 2016, we turned families away over 3,800 times for lack of room. A lot has changed since Ronald McDonald House Akron was built in 1985. Akron Children’s Hospital has grown to a world-class pediatric destination, so our House now draws families from 40 Ohio counties, 23 states and 10 countries…far more than our 20 rooms can hold. We are excited to share that we are currently under construction to add 42 new guest rooms, larger family and volunteer kitchen areas, playrooms, backyard, and larger living spaces for our families. The 48,000-square foot expansion should be completed by the end of 2017 with families being moved in shortly after completion.
