Rodney Melville and Partners was founded in 1985 (as Rodney Melville and Associates). It has developed to a partnership of three - Rodney Melville, Andrew Brookes and Mark Balkham , four associates - David Cattell, Anthony Peers, Stephen Oliver and Nichola Adams - and a consultant - Stafford Holmes - (click on name for CVs). The practice:Provides advice and directs programmes of work, repairing and conserving a broad range of historic buildings. Undertakes or advises on new design and alterations in the context of historic buildings. Administers building contracts ranging in value from a few thousand to multi-million pound projects. Enjoys good working relationships with our clients, many of whom we have served since the practice formed. The partners in the practice each have between 15 and 30 years experience working on historic buildings. Our clients include the National Trust, English Heritage, private clients, commercial organisations, Local Authorities, the Churches Conservation Trust, the Landmark Trust. The broad range of skills available within the practice means it can offer to its clients services which range from undertaking fabric analysis and documentary research to the execution of condition surveys and the direction of programmes of work. In recent years, the practice has extended the scope of its services to embrace the compilation of applications to grant giving bodies and the role of planning supervisor. At the outset of any assignment, the practice's priority is to establish a clear understanding of the client's requirements and to develop a strategy to meet these. A positive and informed approach, supported by many years of experience enables the practice to deliver professional, pragmatic, imaginative, sensitive and cost effective solutions. Although the majority of our work is concerned with the care and repair of historic buildings we are interested in good contemporary design. We believe that it is our role not only to conserve our heritage but also to design new buildings of which future generations will be proud. In addition to the partners, the practice comprises two architectural historians, three architects, four technicians supported by administrative and secretarial staff.
