The NZ Wood Design Advisory Centre is aimed at facilitating larger-scale commercial building projects using structural timber.
The centre will provide free feasibility and concept engineering advice in association with New Zealand’s leading structural engineering consultancies. (See How it Works for details of the process and terms of engagement with which the centre can work with you.)
The design centre is part of the NZ Wood programme, an industry funded initiative that supports the use of sustainably grown New Zealand wood.
The director of the design centre is Jason Guiver, who has a structural engineering and timber background who has spent the last 3 ½ years manufacturing structural timber buildings, recent examples being the award winning Waitomo Caves Gridshell and the NMIT Arts and Media centre in Nelson.
Structural engineering consultants Aurecon, Opus, Beca, Holmes Consulting, Dunning Thornton and LHT Design are associates of the centre along with timber engineering and design specialists:
Law Sue Davidson Limited, Mark L. Batchelar Consulting, Engineers and Robin Frengley Consulting Engineer Limited.
The centre also has close links with STIC, the Structural Timber Innovation Company based in Christchurch and also the Timber Design Society of New Zealand.
