Roberts Engineering Information

Roberts Engineering is the continuation of a pioneer engineering firm originating over 100 years ago. The firm has many years of experience in the design of civil engineering projects, including buildings and other structures, all types of land development, water, sewer, and storm drain facilities. The firm performs land surveying and does contract administration, and construction inspection. We prepare many types of reports including storm water pollution prevention plans, dust control plans, and feasibility reports. Roberts Engineering also has experience with federal and state permit processes such as 401, 404, and 1600, and various levels of environmental reports. Our staff is made up of two civil engineers, 1 planner, and 1 receptionist. We work closely with our independent contractors who provide surveying, drafting and specialized engineering services. Bill Roberts is the principal civil engineer and owner of the firm. He was born and raised in Porterville. His alma mater is California State University at Fresno. He has been in the engineering field since 1959 and received his license in 1965. Bill enjoys structures and surveying and is an expert in land development design. He enjoys the outdoors, especially the mountains which are only an hour from the office. Peter Smith is a civil engineer who has been the firm since 1995. His field of expertise is buildings and structures. Peter received his license in 1983. He worked in Hawaii and northern California before settling in Porterville. When not pursuing engineering, he enjoys his vintage car and his dogs. Donna Shamley is our planner. She has been with the firm since 1970. She oversees the land planning and use aspects of the projects including parcel maps, subdivisions, zone changes, and preparation of the various types of reports including specifications, storm water pollution prevention plans, dust control plans, and project feasibility reports. Donna assists Bill with the day-to-day management of the business.
