Road Scholar Transport was established in 1988 by Jim Barrett and his wife Debra. Jim leased a used tractor trailer and served as the sole driver for the company while Debra acted as dispatcher. Jim had experience in the trucking industry since he first gained this interest at the age of 16 when he began washing trucks after school. He worked his way through college and obtained a position in sales at the same company for which he worked for since the age of 16. When he left this company to start his own in 1988 he was vice president of sales.
Today, over 35 years since Road Scholar hauled its first piece freight, the company has grown from one owner-operator to a fleet of over 125 tractors, 500 trailers and 100 refrigerated units. Revenue in 1988 only amounted to a few thousand dollars. In 2023, revenues were $40 million.
While our technology and methods have evolved over the years, our core values and beliefs remain the same:
*Our first responsibility is to our customer (as individuals, their product, and their brand).
*We are committed to providing our customers with innovative tracking and security technology solutions at a fair return.
*We are committed to safety at our facilities and on roadways.
*We are committed to protecting the environment and energy efficiency.
