Junior Achievement of New York is the local affiliate of Junior Achievement USA, the nation's largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices. We recruit, train, and mobilize thousands of volunteers from businesses and the community to provide relevant, hands-on experiences that give students knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.
ArtsConnection is a nationally recognized non-profit arts education organization with a 45-year history of giving New York City public school students, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, the skills, motivation and positive reinforcement they need to succeed academically and personally. Our award-winning arts programs support literacy and foster communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. We direct our work to the most high-needs communities, and each year reach 45,000 students through partnerships with over 120 public schools across the 5 boroughs and through after-school and weekend initiatives that engage middle and high school students in the cultural resources of New York City. Children and teens are learning to better understand themselves and the world around them through our music, dance, theater, media and visual arts programming led by a faculty of over 125 specially-trained professional artists who share their distinctive artistic perspectives to inspire, guide and teach students.
The Advanced Coronary Treatment (ACT) Foundation is the national charitable organization dedicated to establishing free CPR as a mandatory program in every Canadian high school. Over 6.6M students trained in CPR to date!
The program is built on ACT’s award-winning community-based model of partnerships and support. ACT raises funds for training mannequins and program start-up resources for all high schools and guides schools in program set-up. Schools take ownership of the program and maintain it over the long term.
High school teachers are trained as CPR and defibrillator instructors for their students (more than 9,300 teachers already trained) and ACT has already donated more than 60,000 durable mannequins to high schools, ensuring 1:1 mannequin / student ratio.
While national in scope, ACT’s programs have deep community reach engaging schools in urban, rural and remote areas. To date, more than 5.7 million youth have been trained by their high school teachers, with an additional 350,000 being trained each year. Many lives are being saved!
