River View High School Information

Finley School District is one of many districts across Washington State seeking a Maintenance and Operations (M&O) levy in the upcoming February 9, 2016 special election. On Monday, November 16, the Finley School Board unanimously approved Resolution No. 2015-05 to replace the district's current M&O levy that expires in December 2016. Levies are typically collected every two years and must be renewed (similar to a magazine subscription). Finley residents will be asked to vote on this levy when they receive their ballots in January. At their November meeting, Board members approved the resolution for a replacement levy in the amount of $1,900,000 in 2017, and $1,950,000 in 2018. This two-year levy is NOT an additional tax and will replace the current M&O levy Finley voters approved in February 2014. The current tax rate of $4.04 will increase by 5 cents when taxes are collected in 2017, to $4.09 per $1,000 of assessed value for property owners. What does a levy fund? If approved by the voters, the 2-year M&O replacement levy dollars will be used to support essential programs, staff, and operating expenses that are not fully funded by state and federal dollars. These include textbooks and curriculum updates; athletics and extra-curricular activities; art, music and PE teachers; teacher training; technology; and maintenance, supplies, and operating costs, (such as utilities, security, roof and HVAC maintenance).
