Welcome to Rice Workshop! Rice Workshop is the brain child of local Melbourne restaurateur David Loh and celebrated Japanese chef Tomohiro Suzuki. Inspired by the concept of getting a complete hot meal from a vending machine, David enlisted the help of his good friend, and super-chef, Tom Suzuki to bring this notion to life. Since our flagship store opened in Chinatown in October 2013, we have enjoyed rapid expansion of the franchise and now have 10 Rice Workshop stores in Melbourne and 1 store in Sydney. We were the first in Melbourne to serve our meals with a soft boiled egg however our popularity grew with the introduction of our delicious green tea soft serve. The Concept We love to bring the real taste of Japanese street food and culture to your everyday. Our story begins with the land of the rising sun, Japan, famous for its traditions, food and craftsmanship. And with tradition comes the future, where technology, urban lifestyle and trends collide, creating a colourful, ‘pop-tastic’ cultural landscape that the Japanese youth are known for. At Rice Workshop, we take these two elements and bring them together, creating an experience that embodies Japanese quality flavour and presentation in a contemporary and affordable space. Our food is inspired from the urban street culture, born out of the populated cities and prefectures of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. The flavours are both traditional and modern, but always fresh, evolving and adapting to local tastes. Japanese design aesthetic is major part of the Rice Workshop experience. We love the attention to detail, the strive for perfection and handcrafted presentation appeal that is at the core of Japanese culture. It is from here we interpret into our own environment, one that refined, visually provoking and playful and keeps you coming back for more. Welcome to Rice Workshop.
