The Responsible Mining Index aims to encourage continuous improvement in responsible mining. It will do this by highlighting leading practice and transparently ranking the performance of mining companies on economic, environmental, social and governance issues. The ultimate goal of the Index is to translate the full potential of minerals and metals mining to positively benefit the economies, improve the lives of people, and respect the environment of the producing countries, particularly in some of the world’s poorest regions. The first Index will be published in 2017.
