Resolution Information

Resolution is the math-powered, what-if machine for making better plans. It’s a fast, transparent way to figure out how you and your team is going to get from Point A to Point B, and what it’s going to take to do it. And it’s weirdly satisfying! Resolution is extremely awesome when you are trying to figure out how to turn something you have into something you want, even if you aren’t entirely sure how you’re going to do it. It was inspired from years of working in early/mid-stage startups with big growth goals and rapidly changing plans that weren't always sufficiently fleshed out. What would happen if we hired 30 sales people? Should we change our prices? How big is this market? What will happen if people adopt this new feature? These are the kinds of questions we needed very quick, high level answers to, and we needed them in a format that we could fiddle with, debate, and challenge. Spreadsheets were bad for this; we'd build the entire model out and then realize it was built to answer the wrong question. Whiteboards were bad for this, because they didn't do any math. Slides were the worst, because people could just make up anything or cherry pick data to support their idea. Resolution is a way to make back-of-the-envelope math more collaborative, flexible, and accessible to the average person at work. Everyone should understand context and the constraints of reality -- Resolution makes that easy.
