Research-for-Learning was established in 2010 by Robin Dee Tierney (OCT, PhD) as an independent educational research consultancy in San Jose, California. My work focuses on classroom assessment and educational research, which I approach as similar inquiry processes. I have engaged in research on the meaning of fairness in assessment, the ethics of assessment practice, and the use of assessment to support student learning. I am keenly interested in teachers knowledge and professional judgment, and the development of assessment and research literacy in education. While I am primarily a qualitative researcher, I appreciate the use of complementary methods in educational research. I am certified by the Ontario College of Teachers and I have a PhD in Education. I was an elementary English Language Arts teacher with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board in Ontario and an instructor in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. I teach courses related to educational research and assessment as a part-time professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa in Canada.
